Date Day at Garfield Park Conservatory

Spring is upon us or at least it should be showing it's face sooner rather than later. I can't wait for the warmer weather, sunshine, green grass, and spring flowers. My husband and I love to get out in nature and to explore different areas around us. I'm hoping that these spring showers cease so we can finally get out after hibernating for the winter. One of my favorite places that we visited last year during the warmer weather was the Garfield Park Conservatory.

The Garfield Park Conservatory is located towards downtown on the east side off Raymond St. and Shelby St. It lies on the grounds of Garfield Park and you can reach the conservatory through the Shelby Street entrance to the park. You do have to pay a small admittance fee but it only ranges from $4-10 and it is well worth it. The price depends on the age of the person and is more expensive during special events.

Pulling up and parking outside the conservatory the 10,000 sq ft gorgeous glass building comes into view. The building really stands out in the spring time against the green grass, blue skies, and sunshine. Entering the building you are greeted with millions of different types of foliage, plants, and exotic flowers with a pretty cobblestone path winding through it all. There is so much to see and so many different gorgeous set ups with adorable benches and cute little ponds. There is even a little area where you can view exotic amphibians and reptiles. Here is just a couple of snaps of what you can find on the inside:

If you follow the cobblestone pathway any which way you chose you eventually come to your final destination. In the middle of where the paths meet at the back of the conservatory sits the most beautiful waterfall. I could spend all day sitting in this area by the waterfall enjoying the sound of the water falling and reading a book. This area really is picturesque and in order to truly adore the beauty it is something that has to be viewed with your own eyes. By the pond area of the waterfall there is a little bench that you can sit on and is great for taking selfies or pictures with the family. There is even a hidden cavern going underneath the waterfall that is fun to explore. Here are some photos of this beautiful waterfall:

I mean look at these gorgeous views! I don't think that it's even possible to take a bad photograph of this beautiful landscape.

Once you are finished looking through indoors of the conservatory, don't forget to walk around outside and view the Sunken Gardens. The Sunken Garden is a huge open area on the one side of the conservatory with beautiful flowers and fountains. There is a giant patio area with seating so that you can view the area from afar and a walking path that winds around the fountains. Make sure to visit in the warmer months in order to get the full experience. This would be the perfect place for a spring / summer picnic. Take a look at these photographs of the Sunken Gardens:

Look at the 3rd picture and how beautiful the glass conservatory sits behind the hedges and fountains.

The Garfield Park Conservatory is open all year round and is great to visit anytime. However, its best to visit during the spring and summer in order to enjoy the Sunken Gardens. My husband and I had a fantastic time visiting the Conservatory and Gardens and I can't wait to go back again to explore during one of their special events. Below you can scroll through even more photos of my husband and I enjoying the Conservatory and Gardens on our local date day.
